What I wish they’d taught me…
Russian has only three tenses: past, present, future. Compare that to, say, French, where there are 20+ tenses. Moreover, in Russian, for MOST practical purposes, in the past and present (and, for that matter, the future, but wait for that…) there’s really just one conjugational pattern. (This is not orthodox Russian grammar!)
